Weekly baby update

This week was "interesting".

Jared shared the flu with me on Saturday - and by Sunday I had to go to the hospital for IV fluids due to dehydration. I must say, that was the worst flu I've had in a LONG time.

After a LONG day at the hospital Sunday, and all the while secretly worrying with Brandon that Baby M was going to make her arrival, we were given the all clear (no pun intended) and sent home!

I'm still feeling a tad under it, but much better than I did before!

Tuesday was kind of a funky day too - I went in for my routine office visit and was told that I needed to head back over (apparently I wasn't as "well" as I thought). So I spent Tuesday being cared for as well. We did decide to go ahead and begin the betamethasone (steroids) for the baby's lungs..."just in case"....this will help them mature faster and help in the event that she comes earlier than planned.

Brandon and the kids picked me up on the way to see Grandma Lee at the airport - what a wild day! I'm glad it's over and we can just kick back today and rest...well, that is after I go back to the doc's office for the 2nd steroid injection. But after THAT we'll be resting...and resting a LOT between now and baby. Nothing like being cooped up in the hospital room that is closest to (a) where families wait for c/section patient's doctors to come and update them...heard the all! and (b) closest to NICU where you hear the doctors chatting in the hall with oneanother and with parents. No thanks - I think we've had our share of that and I'm more than willing to waive my turn this time around! We were never hoping to have another preemie...however, after the last couple of days - we're now hoping even LESS to have another one! As always, thanks for the continued love and support!

You're not a lady...

You're nothing but a sister! Do you remember that line from the Disney cartoon, Aristocats? Sometimes I worry about Joseph, growing up flanked on both sides by SISTERS!

This is the garb they dressed him up in earlier this week - what a good sport!

He doesn't seem to mind. He flits and fluts around with the best of the fairies in our house...and he also pushes his Tonka truck into my kitchen cupboards...so maybe he's going to turn out ok in spite of his odds!

Isn't he sweet??

I think I may have made mention of Joseph's desire to continuously test drive the "terrible 2's" before he actually turns 2, haven't I?

Well, in case I haven't - or in case y'all didn't believe me - here's just a sample of what I'm talking about.

Tonight Brandon and the 3 oldest kids (aka "mom's helpers") all have various activities at the church. This leaves me alone with Megan, Jared, Malorie, Melanie and JOSEPH!! Oh sure, Brandon reminds Megan and Jared about being "the oldest kids at home" and how for a few more weeks we really have to help mom, blah blah blah and tells them to watch Joseph, but in their defense, this kid is almost impossible to keep your thumb on!

We did pretty well for the first hour everyone was gone, and then I realized we were doing TOO WELL! It was TOO quiet and Joseph was nowhere to be found. Megan and Jared were reading books in my room - the little girls were watching Spongebob in my room - and Joseph....where was Joseph???

Found him......

He was in the kitchen, of course. Never mind that Megan had shut off all of the lights downstairs! There he sat, on the kitchen island, in the dark...in a huge pile of powdered sugar!!!!!!

Tonight was Jacob's Blue & Gold and each boy was asked to bring a cake and frosting - one of the "games" was going to be for the boy and a parent to decorate a cake (dessert). So in the rush to get out the door on time, the powdered sugar used to make the frosting somehow was forgotten...

Right where Joseph could find it! I'm just very proud of myself for grabbing the camera instead of a really big stick!

Another week -

Either these doctor appointments are coming faster and faster - or we're just getting really boring in between appointments because it feels like I JUST posted a baby update without much else in between!

Well, this one is easy enough - everything is still the same! Which is great news. We are currently 31.5 weeks along...we're hoping to reach 35-36 weeks and our doctor finally caved and said he'd love to see 36 weeks also. He has been saying he'd like to see us make it to 38, but I think he has given in too and would throw us a party at 36.

So that's it - clean bill of health and instructions to "Keep doing what you're doing." Which is getting harder and harder...only because, well, I'm bored out of my skull. But we all know that it's for the best and sucking it up for a few more weeks isn't going to kill us! However, daily trips to NICU for hours at a time probably would kills us - so we'll mind the doctor!

Thanks for checking on us...one more week behind us!

Lunar Eclipse

Wednesday night, Jared, Malorie & Melanie came into my room to watch the eclipse with me. (Everyone else was gone to Scouts and Activity Night at church).

Here are the kids watching out my bedroom window...and a peek at the view I see every day from my bed!

This video was taken around 7:40pm (about 1/2 way through the whole eclipse process).

I wish our camera had a little more UMPH! Maybe by the next lunar eclipse, we will have upgraded! :)

Update...

Not a ton going on this week - I did have another OB appointment and since I promised to update so many of you, I figured here was the best place to do it.

We're doing great - baby is growing well and staying put, can't ask much more of her.

I'm still down (bedrest) - but we're making it. Brandon and the kids are amazing. Madilyn and some friends from church spent last Saturday preparing meals to keep in our freezer. I was amazed at how much they got done in such a relatively short amount of time. (I guess I wasn't the one standing in the kitchen cooking, so maybe I shouldn't be the one to decide if it was a short amount of time or not!)

We sure appreciate all of you who continue to contact us and check on how we're doing. The phone calls and emails and cards and baby gifts - all are so touching and we appreciate you so much!

Today we're 30 weeks and 4 days - tonight it feels like time is really dragging by - I like the days when it seems to be flying by much better!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Brother, I hate this kind of stuff! And for the record, I'm only doing this b/c I love the friend who tagged me...that's what I get for snooping around and catching up with her blog! Do NOT feel obligated to stick around and read this - Brandon and I full on know that we are boring as all get out! lol

How long have you been together? 14 years (married) 20 years (since we first met)

How old is he? 37

How old are you? 37

Who eats more? Depends on who is pregnant at the time

Who said "I love you" first? Brandon

Who is taller? Brandon by about 6 inches

Who sings better? BRANDON!!!

Who is smarter?
Depends on if you want "book smarts" or "street smarts" - he wins in the book department!

Who does the laundry? I do the majority of it - but Brandon isn't helpless when I'm down

Who does the dishes? The kids - ha ha ha! Between the two of us - I think it would be a toss up...I might do them a little more only b/c I'm home all day

Who sleeps on the right side of the bed? I do

Who pays the bills? I do - but with the money he earns! :)

Who mows the lawn? Back in the good old days, when we had GRASS, I did it!

Who cooks dinner? I do a majority of the time - but like laundry, Brandon does a great job in the kitchen when we need him to.

Who is more stubborn? Him of course! ;)

Who kissed who first? Brandon kissed me! "Kiss me quick."

Who asked who out? Brandon asked me to lunch when I was a senior in High School.

Who proposed? He did -

Who is more sensitive? Again, it must be him - of course! :)

Who has more friends? I maintain way more friendships than he does.

Who has more siblings? He has 9, I have 1...lol

Who wears the pants in the relationship? I think we're pretty equal in that department, but FOR SURE the pants look WAY better on him than the do on me!!

Who are you tagging? Carmel, Amy C., Lauren B., Jules, Gretchen, & Sheri. (come on guys, I had to do it)

Student of the Month

Guess we'll keep Jason another semester! He really is a good kid. Kind of goofy, but it's to be expected in this family!

Not much else going on - the driveway guy actually came back today to finish...ha ha! It was supposed to be finished BEFORE Thanksgiving. It just never seemed to fail that every time he'd come and get the road ready for the mat and rock, it'd snow! And then it would snow and snow and snow and snow. Now it's warming up enough that we're worried abt county road restrictions that would prevent him from hauling his back hoe and the dump trucks of rock in - so Brandon called him this morning and Ta-Dah...here he is!! Hopefully THIS time he'll really finish!

Another doctor's appointment today for me. Everything is still going really well. Well, not well enough for me to be allowed up from bedrest - but well enough that I got to come home and didn't have to be admitted to the hospital! We figure any time that happens, it's a good appointment! We'll be 30 weeks on Saturday...we're getting there by golly!

Baby M update...

Most of you know me well enough to know that I don't "do" change well. Brandon and I went in to the ultra sound appointment today believing that "Teresa" would be our tech. We've known her since...man, before Jared was born! She's great. She takes extra time, prints out great pictures, and she never makes us leave with unanswered questions - needless to say, I was thrilled last week when Angie said she got us in with her for today's appointment. Well, apparently due to this lovely weather we've been having, Teresa is stranded somewhere near Sandpoint ID - LOVELY! (Insert hyperventilating and a small anxiety attack here!)

So today "Noni" called us back and said, "I'll be doing your scan today." It honestly took every ounce of maturity I had left today to keep from flailing myself onto the floor and kicking my feet. Then I thought, "Ok, can she still be as bad as she was the time she scanned us with Joseph?" The answer...in a word...YES! I know I should probably just be grateful that we got to take a peek at our princess today at all...but I was so looking forward to the extra perks that come with having Teresa.

I honestly have NO pictures worth scanning. I have one of a foot - which isn't as good as the foot shot from last week...so I'll just refer you down to that picture again. And I have a nice picture of her
"Cha-cha"...sadly, yes, that's what our professional ultra sound technician said when she checked the baby's gender. Needless to say, the whole exam went down hill from there! :)

So, as much as I wish I had great pictures to share, I don't. I even considered just scanning some of Malorie's or Melanie's pictures and saying it was this baby...but I figure we'll probably get another scan before this pregnancy is said and done, so I'll hold out for a while.

The good news is that she's measuring 30wks (28w2d today) and she weighed right on 3 pounds...and, well, she's still a girl. So other than not being spoiled with some great pictures to share - the outcome was wonderful! And for those who want to know a little more - I'm doing fine too. Doc still has me on a modified bedrest - we made it through last week with flying colors, but I didn't expect to get a clean bill of health today. Just a "keep doing what you did last week" - so, here we go again! Luckily, I'm spoiled to have an amazing husband - and our kids are little troopers. There wasn't a time last week that Brandon came through our room that someone wasn't laying next to me either watching a movie or reading a book. We're very lucky parents...and I know what a lucky wife I am.

Thanks for all of your phone calls and emails and cards in the mail. Like I've told several of you, we were truly expecting to get to this point with this pregnancy. No, we weren't hoping to get here, but given our history, we figured it was more than likely. So we weren't painfully blindsided. We'll just keep plugging along, one day at a time for a couple more months and before we know it, this will all be a memory and little ___________ will be here like nothing ever happened! (No, we haven't decided on a name yet!)

Guess Who's Coming to Dinner...

NOBODY! At least not until the Spring thaw!

This is the view out our front door. It's been semi warm the last couple of days (33-34 degrees) so a lot of water has dripped from the roof and reduced the load on the porch quite a bit. I wish I would have taken these pictures Wednesday!

Luckily for us, we don't use this as the main entrance into our home. Oh we still probably won't have anyone to dinner before Spring - the roads are a horrid mess.

The kids are excited for Grandma Lee to get home. We've had 4 snow days this week alone - She has a great sledding hill and we don't yet. Sure they could still go over to her house and sled while she's gone, but I think the lack of chili and hot chocolate keeps them from being overly motivated to do so. Only 32 more days!!

She's still a girl!

I think most of you know that I go in to my OB's office weekly for progesterone injections - theory is it will help prevent pre-term labor...hey, we're game! Anyway, I see my doctor every other week, and the nurse on the off weeks for the injections only. Today was an "injection only" day - I met up with my doctor and the nurse in the hallway before I was taken to a room and the doctor came in with us - we truly do love this doctor! Here are the ultra sound pictures I was sent home with on an "injection only" day! :)

They aren't fabulous - I have an official ultra sound scheduled for this Monday. This was a quickie peek to measure and see how she's doing! She's still a she! She weighs 2 lb 13 oz and measures 29w2d (we're 27w3d today). So she's doing just GREAT!

Foot: How CUTE is that!?

Front: Face in center, chin to left.

Got Snow?

Holy Crapoly - why can't the weathermen ever be wrong in OUR favor? It seems any time they say things like, "Cold and clear with no chance of snow..." we get snow anyway...and then, take this weekend for example..."Snow Saturday afternoon, 1-3 inches expected..." which apparently, in weatherman speak, means "Hunker down sucker, because you're going to wake up Sunday morning to over 18 inches of snow!" NO JOKE!

We went to bed Saturday night knowing we'd have some shoveling to do if we wanted to get out of our garage Sunday morning for church. At 7:00am Sunday, Brandon and I woke up to the sound of a plow in our driveway. My first thought was that it was our neighbor from up the road...and my second thought was "Man, we're are going to be in debt to him for the rest of our lives!" (He's plowed our driveway several times this season already!) Brandon jumped out of bed and before I could roll over to see what he was doing, he was dressed and heading out the bedroom door. I honestly wondered if he had slept in his clothes!

I wallowed out of bed and looked out our window and was surprised to see "Blackie" - a few of you will know who/what "Blackie" is, most of you won't. Brandon's father used to drive a black pick-up every day of his life. It was his work truck, the farm truck, the Sunday-go-to-church truck. After Barry passed away, Brandon's brother Courtney bought the pick-up from Barry's previous employer and keeps it at the farm.

So even though I had a split second of thought that went something like "Isn't that just like Barry to wake up early Sunday morning and come plow our driveway?" I realized when I got bearings that it was, in deed, "Just like Barry"...it was Courtney. Court woke up early and drove from town out to the sticks where two of his brothers and their families live to plow their driveways. So standing in the window yesterday morning w/ tears in my eyes, I wasn't sure if it was because I still miss Barry so stinking much I can't stand it...or if it was because I was so touched by Court's love and sacrifice for his brothers.

I wish I had a better picture of Courtney and Barry to share. But this one does make me think of how much, not only Courtney, but all of the boys benefited from little impromptu chats like this with their dad.

Ok, I didn't mean to turn this in to the Courtney Show. But - when you look at the following pictures and realize what a chore plowing this slop would really be, I wanted to make sure he got his due credit!!!

Oh sure, it's "pretty" - this is out our living room windows.

This is a picture out of Joseph/Jared's bedroom window - it's the snow piled on the top of the garage. Here's hoping our roof doesn't collapse!

And our beautifully plowed driveway! (With an additional five inches of snow that fell on it after it was plowed Sunday morning!)

Here's why it was such a blessing to have Court come and save us - this is OUR truck...fat lot of good it was going to do us!

And here are the trees out our bedroom window - I don't know how some of these little whimpy trees are able to hold up this snow!!

Joseph & Jaynie

This little man has become a terror in our kitchen. He is not afraid to climb on anything. All day long I hear the sound of the chairs from the table sliding around the kitchen to various locations at the counter top. His favorite landing point is just below the cupboard that holds the marshmallows.

Earlier this week, I went and got Joseph out of bed and put him on the floor to walk down stairs. As we walked past the laundry area upstairs, I stopped so I could sort and start a load to wash. By the time I got down to the kitchen, this is what I found...

Joseph teetering on the most narrow counter space in the kitchen, eating from the entire bag of mallows that he dumped on the counter top.

I'm glad I got this recorded before Jaynie outgrew this cute phase. Lately she's been reciting little songs and poems for us. Her favorite has been "Little Sally Walker" which I believe is a jump-rope song.

Subtitles for those who couldn't quiet understand our princess...

"Little Sally Walker walking down the street,
But she did not have a partner so she stopped by me.
She said,
Hey girl, do that thing,
do that thing you like to do."

Our family wouldn't be complete...

...without this spastic 2 year old!!
(Ok, technically, he's only 21 months...but he's close enough for us to count!)

Malorie's Party!

Malorie has sure enjoyed turning 5! She had a little party on her birthday with the family family and Aunt Kandi & Maddi and Aunt Rachel & Eliza! Ever since her birthday, everything she wants she asks for and follows her request with "since I'm five now." Like that makes a difference - "Can I say family prayer - since I'm five now?" Never mind the fact that she's been called upon to offer family prayer just like everyone else...but now she can ask for it - and get it - "since she's five now".

Before dinner on her birthday, Grandma Janet and Grandpa Gary stopped by with a couple of presents. Didn't get any pictures of Grandpa because the boys whisked him away to play air hockey the minute he walked in to the house. Then I didn't get any pictures of grandma and Malorie because - well, I just didn't. So here's grandma and Joseph.

And here is the loot that the grandparents came bearing...some Play-Doh and a new outfit.

A gift for Jaynie from Maddi because, well, because Malorie and Melanie are joined at the hip and one can't do/get/say/eat/breathe/drink something without the other doing exactly the same. I would have made fun of Aunt Kandi for caving and getting Jaynie a gift to open on Malorie's birthday, but I did the exact same thing and got her a matching baby doll.

Aunt Rachel & Eliza and Maddi -

CRAYONS! Everyone loves new crayons! A new huge package of them to go with the huge Tinkerbell coloring book she got.

This is secretly why we keep Aunt Kandi around - our built in clean up committee! (If she only knew how much I appreciated that she was the one bending over picking up wrapping paper and not me! Thank you!)

Happy Birthday to You, Happy Birthday to You, Happy Birthday Dear Malorieeeeeee, Happy Birthday to You....Make a wish!

Blow out the candles!

How many fingers are you now, Malorie??

Eliza! What's the best way to eat birthday cake?

With two hands, of course!

Happy Birthday Dear Malorie.......

Was it really five years ago? It was about six in the evening when my doctor came by to say good night - I was in the hospital at 33wks with preterm labor. He told me he'd see me in the morning when he did rounds - introduced me to the doctor that would be in the hospital during the night - we talked about the Utah/BYU game (He's a Ute, we're Cogars!)...everything was peachy. Then less than fifteen minutes after he left my room we went from peachy to terrifying. My nurse ran to the parking garage to catch my doctor before he left. In my room alarms were sounding, oxygen was being turned on - Malorie was making her grand entrance whether we were ready or not. My doctor came running back into my room and said, "You've done all you can do for her, it's time." Less than 15 minutes later, we met Miss Malorie, face to face.

We spent 22 days in NICU...

And since then - we've enjoyed nothing but years of blissfully happiness with her!

Happy Birthday Sweetheart!

New Year's Eve 2007

We started out our morning with a quick jump on the trampoline. Joseph is in love with this thing! It's so hard to tear him away from it!

So we were expecting a house full of 60 people New Year's Eve (including our 10). Our children must have asked, over 100 times during the day, "What time will everyone be here?" LOL

Madilyn put out some cute candle lights along the walk. She just took fruit jars, added some sand to the bottom and then lit tea light candles. It was so simple, but so cute. Here is a picture in the dark...

...and when I took this one with the flash, I realized the cat was sitting there on the porch. I had no clue he was there when I took the first one.

One by one, the families arrived! Matt, Sylvia and Ava...Eric, Andrea & Ruth...Nick, Nadine, Audrey & Eric, Bruce, Jane, Mykelle, Seth, Brian, Marelle, Peter...James, Lisa, Shiloh, Shane, Shauna, Tony, Cameron, Alison, Josh, Rebecca, Katie, Ryan, Caleb, Levi...Justin, Rachel & Eliza...Brian...Carson, Kandi and Madison...Kevin, Natalie, Jack, Taylor & Noah...Courtney, Alicia, Cami, Zack, Dylan & Emma...and of course Brandon, Shiela, Jason, Madilyn, Jacob, Megan, Jared, Malorie, Melanie & Joseph!

For those of you who took the time to count - that was only 59...we were stood up by #60 who opted to spend the evening with her friends...who doesn't remember being a college student and the fun that was!?

Finally, the Mexican Buffet was under way - the food was all spread, the tables set...time to dig in!

After dinner everyone spread throughout the house...some went to the video games (Yes, those are boxes that still have not been unpacked - but they made for GREAT tv stands!) By my last count we had 3 game systems hooked up last night.

The trampoline was a hit all night long! The adults loved it, the kids loved it, the babies loved it! It was GREAT fun!

Others spent time playing games! Favorites were Apples to Apples, Mad Gabs (A new one to me...and can I just say Aunt Jane RULES that game!) Boggle...and a dice game that Court brought - HOURS were spent playing that game...whatever it was! :)

The air hockey table stayed on all night also - and Polly Pockets was ever present!

Everyone managed to make it until midnight - some looked more tired than others...

...others required a Dora DVD pick-me-up...

...and others "picked" different ways to stay awake!

Finally the time came - I had a great plan to call everyone in to the living room for the count down and I'd stand up on the bridge and record from above...didn't happen. I sat on the couch and held the camera behind me and recorded the action in the kitchen! Happy New Year Everyone!

VaCaTiOn FuN!!!

Saturday morning was pretty amazing. Our trees are so heavy with snow (or at least they were).

I tried to catch a picture of snow falling off the branches, but every time I would click a picture, I'd miss a great picture just a split second later...I was too impatient!

The kids have been enjoying the snow more than I ever imagined they would. Jaynie looks like a little marshmallow in her snow suit - but she loves it!

They've also been enjoying our little snowmobile. This thing is at least 25 years old! MY mom bought it for me when I was young, and it wasn't new then. It's running strong and I'm sure our kids have put 1000 miles on it just this week!

Jaynie loves to ride with the big kids. I'm betting by next year she'll be brave enough to drive it herself.

Malorie tolerates riding with bigger kids. She started out very leery of the snowmobile. She seemed very content just watching others ride - but day by day she gets a little braver...she'll be bucking to drive next year too, I'm sure.

It has become apparent that we'll need to build a sledding hill this summer. The little hill out on our road just doesn't cut it and our acreage is just to flat (for now). Of course this didn't stop us from dragging out the sleds...

...and doing a little hookie-bobbing (view from the mirror as I was driving).
